Descripción
The Loricariidae family groups the well-known plecos or sucker-mouth catfish. They are armored catfish with a body covered in bony plates and a sucker-like mouth adapted for scraping algae from hard surfaces and for clinging to substrates in strong currents.
Native to rivers of South and Central America, they inhabit everything from mountain rapids to slow lowland rivers. Their main diet consists of algae, although many species also consume plant matter and detritus.
